Shaye, I’ve been so inspired reading about your family’s journey—the WHOLE family—to Italy. It’s one not many people would take, but so fruitful and worth every challenge I think. The photo looking through the window at the hills of Umbria is worth a thousand words.
Reading this brought to mind a CS Lewis quote: “But it is surely, in reality, the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government etc exist for except that people may be fed, warmed, and safe in their own homes?”
Thank you for this beautiful reflection, Shaye. This is exactly what I needed to read today. I'm a new mother and just went back to work after maternity leave (thankfully remote / still fully at home but feeling pulled in many directions and a bit guilty no matter which I'm focused on at the moment). Just this morning I wrote myself some affirmations to remind myself of what's important: "My family is a blessing. My husband is a blessing. My son is a blessing. My home is a blessing. These things are never interruptions to my work. They are the reason for it. The true work. The true purpose." This post felt very aligned with that message to me, and I appreciate being on the same wavelength as you! I learn so much from your wisdom and experience. Your well-tended life helps us tend ours well ❤️
A breath of fresh air and a rally for us all doing this good, true work! Your words always make me count my blessings and feel inspired for what’s next, even if it’s perfectly and beautifully ordinary.
Shaye, it has been so incredibly delightful to follow your family vacation and home stay. I loved how you kept it real for all of us. The food and experiences were amazing!! Time to take a group over, just saying :)
Thank you Shaye. Beautifully said> I am sharing with our granddaughter who just had her first child this year. She and her husband will appreciate this I am sure.
