Hello my friends,
I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love October. If you don’t, please don’t tell me, so I can continue to live in a world where all of us are united around perhaps the most glorious month of the year. Produce from the gardens still fills my harvest table, the sun is bright and still slightly warm during the day… the nights are early and romantic while the fireplaces in our home begin to house the first of the seasons many, many fires.
While September still lingers between summer and fall, October makes it known that our stovetops should be warming broth and our feet should be covered in warm socks. Even now typing this, the tips of my fingertips have grown slightly cold in the corner office - the old windows a bit drafty and letting in the chilled morning air.
Like a steaming kettle removed from the fire, so it is with October. The pressure of keeping up the gardens (at least for us Northern gardeners) has been released and whether we’re ready or not, so begins the “break” of weeding and harvesting. Though, who am I kidding really, I’ll be out there until the ground freezes solid…
Still, we have permission to sip and sit for longer, lingering in the kitchen while we wait for warm and fragrant apple scones to be popped out of the oven and onto our plates. We can now stir fresh herbs into broth, roast meats for hours in the oven, and savor the last of the summer’s offerings.
If only for these October moments, all is well.
I offer you a menu this month curated around our need for covering and comfort. Use our printable menu below to plan and be inspired, invite some friends over, and serve them. Break bread, ask questions, linger for longer, laugh louder. We can create these magical moments - they’re here for the taking.
Here’s 10-days of breakfast, lunch, and dinner to cultivate beauty on your table in the coming weeks. Enjoy.
As a quick reminder, we offer our $7/month paid newsletter supporters two menus each month.
Each printable menu will cover 10-days worth of seasonal meals and will include notes on when to mix sourdough, soak beans, etc. Recipes are linked to newsletters, blog posts, or YouTube videos, as applicable.
Also worth noting, every Cooking Community member also gets access to our menus over on our app. So whether you support The Elliot Homestead here or there, we’ve got you covered. Over in our Cooking Community, we offer 5 new recipes each month, along with instructional cooking videos for each one and an exclusive, private online social community of home-cooks.
Here’s a peek at what we’re cooking in our community this month. Look good? Join in!
