Hello my friends!
We had company this past week and I was ever-so-grateful for the structure that we build in our kitchens to keep the train from coming off the tracks. I’ve found that success or failure in my kitchen comes down to a few simple (though signifiant) tasks:
Intentional, purposeful grocery shopping / pantry stocking
Menu planning
Prepping for the next day
If planning too far ahead feels overwhelming to you, might I encourage to start by just planning ahead for the next day. Pull meat from the freezer, make sure you have ingredients for meals that are planned, mix your breads, or prepare a little extra for a busy day. Small steps. Sometimes, when I’m deeply overwhelmed, I say to myself: “Just think one meal ahead. One meal. What meal is next and what do you need to do now.”
It’s in training our minds and thus training our habits that a from-scratch kitchen, full of nourishing, nutrient-dense food is possible in this modern fast-paced age.
Trust me - it is possible. Don’t let the culture tell you differently. I hope February’s second meal plan is helpful for you as schedule, plan, and prepare to make food that matters in your kitchen. Take heart! This work is vital and you should be proud of your efforts.
As a quick reminder, we offer our paid newsletter supporters two menus each month. Each printable menu will cover 10-days worth of seasonal meals and will include notes on when to mix sourdough, soak beans, etc. Recipes are linked to blog posts or YouTube videos, as applicable.
Also worth noting, every Cooking Community member also gets access to our menus over on our app. So whether you support The Elliot Homestead here or there, we’ve got you covered. Over in our Cooking Community, we offer 5 new recipes each month, along with instructional cooking videos for each one and an exclusive, private online social community of home-cooks.
Be encouraged! From-scratch meals take effort, perhaps even a little bit more than you’re used to. But that doesn’t mean cooking meals from-scratch needs to overrun your kitchen or life. It’s doable. I promise.
Here’s to a delicious end-of-February… let’s cook!
