Your April Menu, Part One (+ a bonus recipe)
Here's What To Cook For Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper
Hello my friends!
I’m in full go-mode. Perhaps you are too?
Those of us who have gardens enter into a vortex of time and space each spring. A time where the gardening window open and all-systems-are-go for getting crops into the ground before that window closes. For many crops, such as lettuces, the window remains open for months - it’s a plant and harvest as you wish sort of a crop.
But other crops, important crops, such as potatoes, require a long, careful season. Easter means potato planting in my zone and the tubers tucked deep into the cold, dark soil will remain untouched until early October. To delay such important plantings would result in sub-par crops (in this case, small potatoes).
It may be difficult for non-gardeners to understand the deep importance and significance of the spring calendar. Or why we even bother when the grocery store offers cheap alternatives. But this is where real food begins: effort, soil, weeding, watering, tending, potting on - all on a set schedule and all completely dictated by the weather. And all driven by pure passion.
Needless to say, my back is aching and I’m more grateful than ever for the menu’s that I share with you here each month. These menus are for you but did you know that I actually use them too? They’ve saved me (and my food budget) more times than I can count. The work is done for you - and me! As an additional thank you to our paid-newsletter supporters, I’ve also included a recipe below for the Creamy Chicken Soup that’s listed in this month’s menu. There’s a printable version below.
As a quick reminder, we offer our paid newsletter supporters two menus each month. Each printable menu will cover 10-days worth of seasonal meals and will include notes on when to mix sourdough, soak beans, etc. Recipes are linked to blog posts or YouTube videos, as applicable.
Also worth noting, every Cooking Community member also gets access to our menus over on our app. So whether you support The Elliot Homestead here or there, we’ve got you covered. Over in our Cooking Community, we offer 5 new recipes each month, along with instructional cooking videos for each one and an exclusive, private online social community of home-cooks.
Here’s a peek at what we’re cooking in our community this month. Look good? Join in!
Here’s to a delicious start of Spring… let’s cook!
