Most of our journeys are fairly obscure, aren’t they? Very rarely do they go in a straight and obedient line from Point A to Point B, as much simpler as that would make the experience. My journey to this place was no different.
My Grandpa Larson was a coal miner in Idaho. He was also an Italian restaurant owner, a sheriff, and a property manager. He worked hard all in his life and sometimes I am in AWE that I get to work in my own kitchen for a living. Even on the hard days, I often mutter to myself “You’re not working in a coal mine, Shaye. Let’s not be too precious about it.”
But then I wonder… how did I even get here?
20 years ago, I was entering my Junior year of college, my first at a State University, majoring in Beef Production and eating Jack In The Box at 1:00am.
10 years ago, I was drowning in babies, Stuart was teaching a a local Classical Christian school, and we brought our first milk cow to our new farm.
And today? Well, I haven’t eaten Jack In The Box since those college days and beef, babies, and dairy are still my top priorities
Come along with me as I share with you where our whole food love affair began, when I began to question the standard American diet, and how I prioritize production and spending in my kitchen. Consider this a little peek behind the curtain to what we’re churning out week after week here at The Elliott Homestead….
I hope you enjoy!
Cheers,
Shaye
