Hello my friends!
The time has finally come for cold foods & icy beverages. The hundred-degree-days have arrived on the farm and will continue to blaze us in all their summer splendor for the foreseeable weeks. I keep opening my weather app, only to find icons of the sun and red-warnings. Ya, I get it. It’s hot.
But luckily with hot days comes delicious opportunities to eat summer food: watermelon salads with pickled red onion, poached and chilled chicken with herbed creme fraiche dressing, zippy fermented salsa, and all the grilled meats we can handle. It’s a delicious season and I’m eager to my weight in tomatoes before the summer ends.
From now and henceforth, each meal will somehow incorporate a tomato.
The next ten weeks are focused tomatoes, peppers, basil, cucumber, and eggplant. It’s time to delight in the flavors of the season!
As a quick reminder, we offer our $5/month paid newsletter supporters two menus each month. Each printable menu will cover 10-days worth of seasonal meals and will include notes on when to mix sourdough, soak beans, etc. Recipes are linked to blog posts or YouTube videos, as applicable.
Also worth noting, every Cooking Community member also gets access to our menus over on our app. So whether you support The Elliot Homestead here or there, we’ve got you covered. Over in our Cooking Community, we offer 5 new recipes each month, along with instructional cooking videos for each one and an exclusive, private online social community of home-cooks.
Here’s a peek at what we’re cooking in our community this month. Look good? Join in!
