... the tough "leave"?

Hello my friends,

We found ourselves deep in dirt amongst the cold wind, laboring in the early spring garden beds. Grey, mottled clouds filled the sky and fits of rain whipped through the air. Grit blew in our eyes. The dirt-blackened knees of my Carhart overalls had long been soaked through by the cold, wet soil and the constant drizzle from the sky ensured all of our clothing remained just damp enough to give us all a violent chill.
