Hello my friends!
I’m going to be blunt: I’m finding it very hard to keep up with the demands of feeding my family right now. On the whole, they’re great eaters and willing helpers in the kitchen - so credit where credit is due. But the reality is as we finish up the school year, tend to the gardens, and get next year’s crops in the ground, everything I cooked needs to be in mass.
More meat.
More bread.
More leftovers.
Just more of everything!
Part of the way cooking from scratch is possible is adapting to such situations and simply doing bigger versions of everything. Having “leftovers” (I know that’s not a word everyone loves, but hear me out) on hand is essential for me in this season. Perhaps for you as well?
By the way, I’m not talking about reheating a casserole for a 3rd time. I’m talking about: roasting extra chickens and using the meat for a variety of recipes, doubling up on bread batches, making the most use out of seasonally available produce, and prepping a few dishes at a time to account for days that time is pinched.
This is all part of the kitchen workflow which changes seasonally. That’s what I’m here - bringing you two menus a month that are centered around what’s happening seasonally, what’s available to us now, and what we can put of rich sustenance on the table to carry us through the laborious days of spring.
So let’s get cooking! Don’t forget, there’s a printable version and also a PDF with clickable links below. I’m right here with you!
As a quick reminder, we offer our $5/month paid newsletter supporters two menus each month. Each printable menu will cover 10-days worth of seasonal meals and will include notes on when to mix sourdough, soak beans, etc. Recipes are linked to blog posts or YouTube videos, as applicable.
Also worth noting, every Cooking Community member also gets access to our menus over on our app. So whether you support The Elliot Homestead here or there, we’ve got you covered. Over in our Cooking Community, we offer 5 new recipes each month, along with instructional cooking videos for each one and an exclusive, private online social community of home-cooks.
Here’s a peek at what we’re cooking in our community this month. Look good? Join in!
