BREAD.
So simple to serve. So simple to eat. And yet for some of us… so daunting to make.
But I don’t want you to keep feeling scared about baking bread. My close friend, who shall remain nameless (cough, Amber, cough) is a fantastic cook. But bread intimidates her to the point that she won’t bake it. Why?
If I had to guess, it’s because it’s been made complicated by well-meaning enthusiasts. In the age of information, you can Google “bread recipe” and become instantly overwhelmed by a flood of information. Yeast, sourdough, whole grain, freshly milled, sea salt, tap water, ancient grains, gluten, protein…. it’s a lot.
So let’s set all that aside.
When I first learned to make bread sixteen years ago, my Aunt Vicki visited my kitchen, gave me her standard recipe, showed me quickly how to make it, and finito. I made bread.
That was enough to get me off the starting line, get me comfortable with putting fresh bread on the table every week, and eventually confident enough to start trying my hand at creating my own recipes. That’s all you need. A kickstart.
Consider my free master dough workshop your very own kickstart.
It’s a free, hour-long class on how to make one basic bread “master” dough that you can use in many different ways. I’ll show you 3 specific recipes during the class and give you printable recipes for each one.
This is it. Step one.
Register to get the link to join live OR to get sent the recipes and the replay if you can’t make it.
Master Dough Workshop Live: Friday, January 24 at 9:00 a.m. PST
In the free workshop, we’ll cover:
How to mix master dough
How to store master dough
How to use master dough for three recipes: sandwich bread, quick skillet flatbreads, and savory (or sweet) skillet focaccia
If you’ve already jumped off the bread-starting-line and are looking for further, more developed instruction and inspiration for your homemade breads, I’d also like to invite you to join our Bread Masterclass, taking place on Friday, January 31st, at 9am PST. This is a LIVE class where I will instruct (for three hours!) and we will bake-along together. I’ll be there to guide, direct, answer questions, and show you my own techniques for some fabulous homemade bread recipes.
In the masterclass, we’ll cover:
Basics of yeasted breads
Overnight no-knead bread
Herbed supper rolls
Grissini (Italian breadstick)
Fougasse (French breakfast bread)
Pull apart cheesy loaf
Sunrise berry buns
Space to the masterclass is limited, as we keep them small for intimate and enjoyable participation. This is a highly interactive class — come ready to bake!
Hope to see you there!
P.S. If you happened to be one of the lovely guests of my first Master Dough workshop in November, make sure you still register to get a printable recipe for a basic sandwich loaf as well as a replay recording without all the technological *excitement* of the first one!
I'm so sorry to post this here but I don't see where else I can contact someone. I have been a member of the cooking community for some time, but somehow I think I might have gotten canceled and I can't get in. It says to contact an administrator so I'm asking how to do that. Thanks so much.
