Sometimes I like to pretend like my life is in order. In that special world, my children’s homeschool assignments are completed with honors. All my pencils are sharpened, dishes are washed, tablecloths are ironed, bills are paid, floors are mopped, and social responsibilities fulfilled with grace.
The reality, however, is that I currently sit surrounded by crumbled up bits of half completed school work. Erasers have been chewed off, problems missed, and I can small the remnants of breakfast foods lingering in the air (and not in a good way). The reality is that life is real and anyone who pretends different is a liar.
That being said, there are plenty of beautiful and good pockets to our days. I often find that a good playlist, a simple (but wonderful) dinner, and a little baked treat make the difference between complete chaos and complete beautiful chaos. I shared this on my Cooking Community call last week, but a baked good - in my home - can shift the tides of attitudes and mess quicker than anything else.
Quick! Everyone! Let’s clean up before the cake finishes baking!
It works. Every time.
Not only that, but it blesses my family. It brings them joy and pleasure. It’s a token of love, affection, and comfort.
Today, it is a caramel apple cake. This was originally posted as a Cooking Community recipe. Enjoy!
