Hello my friends,
There’s not a day spent in the garden that’s not a good day. Even when poison ivy crawls up my forearms, my brow is wet with sweat, the thorns sink into my hands like cat claws, and a spider or two has found its way into my hair. I’m rarely happier than the moments I get to spend with my plants, in the soil, under the shade of our mighty oak tree.
Fueled by multiple espressos, Stuart and I were able to spend an entire day in the garden this past week - Juliette, our youngest, forever in tow alongside. Amongst the chaos of end-of-year activities and obligations, to have such a day was an absolute oasis. For many, the work associated with gardening would hardly be described as an “oasis”. It is, after all, laborious and hard. (And there’s spiders, as previously mentioned). But for those who flavor their life with challenge, the result is sweet.
We wanted to share with you the challenge and the sweet of time in the garden in this weeks’s come garden with me video.
We’re often told that life should be quick, convenient, and easy. Even if subtly, we’re ultimately all focused on making it so. To garden is to boldly welcome chaos, defeat, and labor into your life. To see something of value beyond convenience and ease. Perhaps that’s why I appreciate the gardener’s heart so much: it is willing to be a participant. It is to welcome in the tornado of it all because we want to be active in life, and not just a bystanders.
So whatever it is you are active in, charge forward this weekend and be a vibrant partaker of it! (After an espresso and enjoying our time together in the garden, of course.)
Cheers,
Shaye
